We have been studying God’s special purpose for swimming creatures with the little ones on Wednesday nights. Each creature has a unique job to do, and they all work together to make the ocean, rivers, and lakes a special place to glorify God. Last night, the animal of the night was sponges. I brought in our algae “sponge” ball that lives in our frog tank, for an example.
The little ones were so excited that there was something new to explore. They were more excited about the “animal” than they were about the donuts that were for snack. Yes, sponges are considered an animal because they consume food and do not produce food. At first they were a little apprehensive to touch it, but after I assured them that it did not bite or move, we took turns touching it, holding it, describing how it felt. Then they wanted to know EVERYTHING about the animal. We did wash hands thoroughly after touching the sponge ball.
The job of the sponge is to help clean the ocean, or to filter out the bad.
