Happy Birthday to my great- grandmother in Heaven.
I was privileged to know two great- grandmothers. I was able to spend a lot of time visiting one of them, Granny. My sisters and I would spend the night when we were younger.
Granny taught me how to sew, crochet (that skill is now long forgotten), and how to make several foods. She never shared recipes. She always said, if you want to know how to make it, you have to come watch. She measured, but some dishes you just needed to know how things are supposed to look and feel. That might mean adding a little more of this or that to make it just right.
Granny was not afraid to tell you her opinion, or if she thought you were wrong. I also saw her many times kneal beside her bed and pray.
Another special thing we shared, was that her birthday was exactly 1 week after mine (except on leap years).
I had her until 6 weeks before my 3rd child was born. The family went to see her in the hospital a few days before she died. Even though she was failing in health, she still had her sound mind and good spirit. She was slightly saddened that she would not get to meet baby #3. She said many kind things that each of us cherish.
Many don’t know even know there grand parents, but I am thankful to have known my great grandmother, Granny, so very well, and that 2 of my children got to know their great-great-grandmother.
